The monument—a bronze bust of Frank on a tall marble pedestal by sculptor Cäcilie Danzer (1885–1963)—was erected on May 1th8, 1935, on the 150th anniversary of the Old General Hospital (AAKH), in courtyard 1 of the hospital, to the side of the main avenue (the same bust had already been created in marble by the sculptor in 1930/31, and in 1931, with a different pedestal and inscription, it was dedicated by the Austrian Ministry of Social Affairs to the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden for its “Gallery of Great Doctors”).
During the reconstruction work, transferring the AAKH into the Campus of the University of Vienna, the bronze head was stolen from the construction site in October 1995 – to this day, only the empty marble pedestal with the dedication inscription remains in courtyard 1 of the campus.
