Honorary Citizen	civ.h.c.	1965/66		Friedrich Adamek, Generalsekretär der Ersten Österreichischen Spar-Cassa, wurde am 24. Juni 1966, im Nachklang zum 600 Jahr Jubiläum der Universität Wien, gemeinsam mit neun anderen Vertretern aus Wirtschaft, Medien und Sozialpartnerschaft (Anton Benya, Franz Heissenberger, Fritz Klenner, Erwin Kuffler, Hans Martinek, Josef Neubauer, Rudolf Sallinger, Hellmuth Slaik und Alfons Übelhör) zum "Ehrenbürger der Universität Wien" ernannt, da er "… QUI CONSILII AD IUBILAEUM UNIVERSITATIS NOSTRAE CELEBRANDUM CONDITI PARTICEPS AUCTORITATE OFFICII SUI DE EXSTRUENDIS AEDIBUS PROFESSORUM OPTIME MERITUS EST " (Wortlaut Diplom). Er "hat dem aus Anlaß des Universitätsjubiläums gegründeten und aus Persönlichkeiten der Wirtschaft und des öffentlichen Lebens gebildeten Jubiläumskomitee angehört, [...], hat der Universität große wirtschaftliche Vorteile gebracht aber auch zur allgemeinen Verbreitung des 'Universitäts-Gedankens' beigetragen" (aus der Antrags-Begründung).

Short biography

In 1965, he was a member of the "Jubilee Committee," which was made up of personalities from business and public life and which, on the occasion of the celebration of the 600^th anniversary of the University of Vienna, was to provide economic support for the university and also to anchor the idea of the university and education in the public consciousness.

For this he was appointed "Honorary Citizen of the University of Vienna" on June 24^th, 1966, in the aftermath of the 600^th anniversary of the University of Vienna, together with nine other representatives from business, the media and the social partnership.

From 1973-75, he was president of the WSBI (World Savings Banks).
